Have a Flood on Your Cardiff CA Property? Here are Hidden Spots to Look for Water Damage

Finding water damage inside your home is very stressful. First, you start thinking, “Why is there water on the floor?” You contemplate if you or one of your household members accidentally spilt water on the ground. Once you rule that out, you start to wonder what, then, the source might be.

You might then find yourself walking around the leak or region of the flooding to see where it’s coming from. You find it, you have the source of the leak or flood fixed, and then you clean up the water. Sounds simple, right? Not exactly.

There are many things that make tending to a source of a leak and cleaning up excess water difficult. One of those things is ensuring you’ve properly cleaned up all the water and moisture before water damage occurs.

Below are some common spots that homeowners often miss:

Behind Your Washing Machine

How lucky we are to live in a time where we no longer have to wash clothes by hand! The drawback, though, is that washing machines can be a pain in the butt at times. Most of us have experienced a washing machine problem at some point.

One issue with washing machines that might occur is loose hot and cold water hoses. When loose, these hoses can spurt out water which, in turn, can lead to a leak or house flooding. But don’t just mop up the water surrounding your washing machine. You must also clean up the leak from behind and even underneath your unit.

Under Wooden Siding

Wooden siding looks stunning on many homes. However, it’s also a great place for water to seep into and hide. Check between where any two pieces of siding meet as well as around windows or other features embedded into your siding for signs of hidden water or water damage. If any is present, siding or trim may need to be replaced.

Beneath Your Dishwasher

Washing machines don’t normally experience too many issues, except maybe a clog here and there. But it is possible that your dishwasher can be the reason behind your flood or leak thanks to weak seals or gaskets under your unit.

In this case, it’s essential to remove the dishwasher to clean water within all the nooks and crannies, including the floor and around cabinets and baseboards. Doing this as soon as possible is critical as even just tiny dribbles of water can result in the development of mold or mildew or even permanent damage of floors, baseboards, and cabinetry.
